The white sugar we know and love doesn’t come that way in nature.

Most sugars we use start out as whole plants like beet, sugar cane and corn. Sugars from plants must be extracted, processed and refined to make sweeteners like table sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar and corn syrup. These products are called processed or refined sugars.

Though convenient, refined sugars are usually have higher concentrations of calories, and higher glycemic indexes and loads.

Studies suggest they are associated with conditions such as obesity and diabetes.
