The Paleo diet was developed by Loren Cordain, who popularized it in his 2002 book, The Paleo Diet. This diet believes that our bodies do better when we eat the way our Paleolithic, hunter-gatherer ancestors did.

About This Diet

There are many versions of Paleo diets. This variation of a ketogenic, low carb diet is based on principles presented in the original book.

Foods that are restricted include:
All cereals including whole grains.
Legumes including peanuts.
Processed foods.
Salt and salty foods.
Most sugars.

Foods that are maybe OK in certain instances include:
Alcohol and caffeine.

Foods that are encouraged include:
Lean meats, fish and seafood.
Non-starchy vegetables.

There are no calorie restrictions of allowed foods on this diet.
